On October 18, 2016, Karl Steinberger participated in a “Lunch and Learn” sponsored by Steward Sneed Hughes, a division of Bancorp South at the Biloxi Yacht Club. The meeting was well attended by local business representatives who are concerned about the new white collar amendments to regulations issued by the US Department of Labor, which become effective on December 1, 2016. Although not the only one, the primary change is the increase of the minimum salary for exempt employees. Employers are faced with either raising salaries, or converting existing employees from exempt to non-exempt status.  If they remain non-exempt, then employees will be eligible for overtime for working over forty hours in a regular work week.
