The Board of Trustees is the constitutional governing body responsible for the oversight of Mississippi’s eight public Institutions of Higher Learning. The IHL is responsible for demonstrating accountability to the people of Mississippi for the operation of the eight distinct Mississippi universities. In 2023, the Board of Trustees through its Executive office and professional staff oversaw a total operating budget of $4.5 billion dollars for the institutions that enrolled over 82,000 students.
The IHL is widely considered one of the most important governmental entities of the State of Mississippi, since it is tasked with operating a strong public university system to enhance the quality of life of Mississippi by effectively governing institutions with their mission of student achievement and the preparation of students to become responsible citizens, adhering to high academic standards.
Mr. Heidelberg’s term will be for nine years, and he represents the Second Supreme Court District on the IHL Board, which consists of 12 trustees.
