People on the Gulf Coast are aware of the effect of flooding from tropical storms and seasonal  heavy rains. As of October 1, 2021 the National Flood Insurance Program is making  major changes to flood insurance premium formulation. This new criteria will affect new and existing policies in an effort to make premiums ‘actuarily sound’. New policies will see a major change and existing policies can expect an annual increase for several years as the ‘grandfathering’ of premiums will be discontinued.
