Last week the Mississippi Ethics Commission unanimously elected Stephen Burrow to be its Vice-Chairman. In that capacity, Stephen will represent the Commission and preside over its meetings when the Chairman is not available. Appointed by Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Mike Randolph, Stephen is the second-longest serving member of the Commission. “I am honored and grateful for the confidence my colleagues have shown. I will do my best to live up to their expectations.”
The Commission administers and enforces Mississippi’s Ethics in Government Act, the Open Meetings Act, and Public Records Act. The Commission’s primary roles under the law are: (1) receive Statements of Economic Interest for filing by public officials and candidates, and make the completed forms available for public inspection, (2) process sworn complaints and investigate alleged violations by public servants of the Ethics in Government Act, the Public Records Act and the Open Meetings Act, and (3) issue written advisory opinions to public servants regarding the Ethics Law.
